Pediatric Emergency Medicine Switzerland, short PEMS, is a society engaged in and promoting pediatric emergency medicine (PEM).
It was founded on Nov 5th, 2010 in Fribourg, Switzerland. The society evolved from a working group convened by the SGP to evaluate a proposal for a nationally recognised certificate in PEM in Switzerland. The working group comprised representatives from all three linguistic regions of Switzerland, thus its members made use of this network to call into life a society to represent the interests of PEM and its practitioners. On 1st December 2017 pediatric emergency medicine physicians (PEMS) and pediatric emergency nurses (PEN-S) united to one society, the PEMS.

Goals of PEMS
Quality
To create the necessary conditions for nationwide, high quality management of acutely ill and injured children and adolescents and their families in hospital emergency departments.
Interests
To represent the interests and concerns of PEM practitioners in professional societies and working groups.
Education
To support and promote educational and training programmes in PEM at all levels of training.
Guidelines
To develop treatment guidelines, recommendations and to initiate and support research in PEM.
Promotion
To promote recognition of PEM as a specialty in Swiss hospitals.
